ISAT Gamelan Orchestra rocked the stage in QVMAG

Friday (7/11/2015), the Indonesian Student Association of Tasmania (ISAT) had a great opportunity to promote Indonesian traditional music instruments (gamelan) to public in Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG), Launceston. ISAT participated in an event called ‘REMADE’. This event exhibited various wardrobes made from recyclable materials wore by mostly disabled people and school children.

ISAT members performed a gamelan orchestra as part of the main event during the day. They played several songs to accompany dance performance. These included ‘Kebo Giro’, ‘Eling-eling’, ‘Wong dunyo’, and a theme song for a theatrical danced performed by school children.

In the end of the event, ISAT received a full appreciation from the audience. Everyone seemed happy to enjoy the gamelan music. In general, gamelan orchestra is new and interesting to people in Launceston. In the future, ISAT is looking forward to other opportunities to perform gamelan orchestra in a mission to promote Indonesian culture to wider community in Tasmania.
